75% of Gen-Z Craves Romance Over Porn on TV, Study Finds

A recent study reveals that 75% of Generation Z prefers traditional romance over pornography on television. This statistic emerged during a panel discussion at Series Mania, where industry experts emphasized the importance of sex scenes in TV shows. Caroline Hollick, former Channel 4 drama chief, highlighted the role of intimacy coordinators in empowering actors. She stressed that these professionals are crucial in navigating power dynamics on set. Hollick also advocated for treating sex scenes with the same seriousness as stunt performances, allowing for deeper exploration of themes. Liz Kilgarriff, a former producer, noted that sex scenes should focus on emotional connections rather than being gratuitous. Manuel Alduy from France Télévisions pointed out the need to depict consent in modern TV, despite it not being a legal concept in France. The panel’s insights underscore a shift towards more meaningful and consensual portrayals of intimacy on screen.
