30-40 Minutes of VR Training Boosts Paramedic Skills by 2026!

A new virtual reality training program, NEONATE, has been developed to enhance the skills of paramedics and ambulance officers in managing unplanned out-of-hospital births. The program features a 30 to 40-minute VR simulation focusing on neonatal care scenarios such as temperature management, respiratory distress, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and one-minute Apgar score assessment. Designed for paramedics, volunteer ambulance officers, paramedic students, and nursing and midwifery students, NEONATE can be used standalone or as a supplement to existing training. It also includes an introduction to VR for those new to the technology. The program, funded by the Women and Infant Research Foundation, is currently in trials and expected to launch officially in early 2026. In Australia, VR training has been increasingly adopted by hospitals and healthcare providers, with several tertiary hospitals and a trauma center integrating VR into their training programs. Government agencies have also supported VR training initiatives for various medical scenarios.

Unless people have had a lot of training, they tend to freeze or panic in emergencies, putting them at extra risk. A virtual reality game whose sole purpose is to drill you in different emergencies you might face (car accident, fire, flood, medical, etc.) would be pretty neat.
