League of Legends Season 2 introduces significant gameplay changes centered around Ionia, set to launch with Patch 25.09 on April 30th, 2025. Key updates include a visually enhanced Summoner’s Rift and the introduction of the Spirit Blossom Rift, which will not alter gameplay terrain. The rework of neutral objectives is a major focus, with Atakhan now appearing solely as Atakhan of the Thorns. This version grants the killing team all roses on the map and a 25% boost in stats, along with a new team-wide buff, Spiritual Purification, that deals area damage and triggers slows. Void Grubs will spawn only once, reducing the need for team-wide coordination, while Rift Herald will be easier to take down without damage reduction from champions and will offer more strategic value. Bounty mechanics will change to prevent unfair snowballing, appearing only when a team is clearly ahead and scaling champion gold with levels. Additional changes include automatic item distribution for jungle and support roles, role swapping during champion select, and nerfs to lane-swapping. Quality-of-life improvements like an updated death recap screen and new multi-kill sound effects are also on the way. These updates are expected to shift the meta, increasing dragon priority and promoting more skirmish-heavy gameplay.
