Researchers have developed lab-grown teeth using a mix of human and pig cells, successfully implanting them into the jaws of mini pigs. This innovation aims to address the issues with traditional dental implants, where around 20% of patients develop peri-implantitis, an infection leading to bone loss. Traditional implants do not bond with bones and gums as effectively as natural teeth, making them susceptible to microbial infections. The complex microbial community in our mouths can disrupt and lead to various health issues beyond oral health. This research could revolutionize dental care by providing a more natural and infection-resistant alternative to current dental implants.
