The TSA dropped the shoe removal requirement due to “intelligence pointing to a continuing threat” after Richard Reid’s attempted shoe bomb in 2001. Improved technology and upcoming events like the World Cup are expected to bring an influx of travelers, according to Noem. Major airlines such as American, Delta, and United have welcomed the decision, citing its potential to streamline travel processes.
