Paige Bueckers, the UConn star and NCAA champion, was selected by the Dallas Wings as the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. Bueckers, a three-time first-team All-American, is the sixth player and the first since 2016 to be drafted first overall after winning a national championship in the same year. She led UConn to their 12th NCAA title and their first in nine years. Bueckers boasts a career scoring average of 19.8 points per game at UConn, with shooting efficiencies of 53% from the field, 42% from three-point range, and 85% from the free-throw line. In 2021, she became the first freshman to win the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, and AP National Player of the Year. Despite facing knee injuries, including an ACL tear, she played her best basketball in her final two seasons. The Wings, who finished with a 9-31 record last season, hope Bueckers will help turn their fortunes around.
