80% of Opioid Samples Contain Dangerous Sedative: Shocking Drug Analysis Stats Revealed!

The Rapid Drug Analysis and Research (RaDAR) program, launched in October 2021, has uncovered critical information about street drugs. Early analysis found xylazine, a veterinary sedative linked to severe wounds, in about 80% of opioid samples. The program processes 700 to 1,000 samples monthly from 65 sites across 14 states. About 85% of these samples come from public health organizations focused on harm reduction. The RaDAR program uses innovative technology to detect trace amounts of dangerous substances, including fentanyl, xylazine, and medetomidine, as well as other adulterants like acetaminophen and rat poison. In summer 2024, the program detected BTMPS, an industrial chemical, in drug samples nationwide. Nationally, drug overdose deaths have been falling for the first time in decades, possibly due to better information about drug composition helping users make safer decisions.
