Egyptian-American filmmaker Sam Abbas has spent three years documenting the lives of migrants for his upcoming film, “Europe’s New Faces.” The movie captures the harrowing journey of migrants from Libya across the Mediterranean Sea to their lives in Paris’ abandoned buildings. From June 2021 to late 2024, the MSF rescue ship Geo Barents conducted 190 operations, saving 12,675 people. Abbas observed the daily struggles of these migrants, including legal threats, workplace exploitation, and the constant battle with bureaucracy. The film also highlights the cultural and language barriers that contribute to their isolation. Featuring music by Bertrand Bonello, the film is set for a Q4 2025 release.
