The concept of creativity, a value now central to modern society, did not appear in written form until 1875. Before 1950, there were virtually no articles, books, or classes dedicated to the topic. Psychologists in the mid-20th century attempted to quantify creativity, focusing on divergent thinking. They administered tests like the “brick test” to diverse groups including Army officers, schoolchildren, and engineers at General Electric. However, these tests have not been shown to predict success in creative pursuits. Today, creativity is often linked with novelty and utility, particularly in Silicon Valley, where it’s seen as essential for innovation. Despite advancements in AI, the deeper questions of whether machines can be wise, honest, or caring remain more significant than their ability to mimic human creativity.

Spot on. A must-read for everyone working in a “Creative agency”.
