US Pays 11 Times More Than China to WHO: Trump Orders Withdrawal

President Trump has issued an executive order to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization (WHO). This action requires a one-year notice period as mandated by a 1948 Joint Resolution of Congress. Trump’s decision echoes his previous attempt in July 2020 to leave the WHO, which was halted when he left office. He has criticized the WHO for its management of the COVID-19 crisis, alleging favoritism towards China and overcharging the US. Trump highlighted that while China contributes $40 million annually to the WHO, the US pays approximately $450 million each year. Despite President Biden’s reversal of the withdrawal notice in January 2021, Trump has now reinstated the process, citing the same reasons for departure.
