Asan Medical Center has introduced a groundbreaking AI-based voice scribe system. Trained on tens of thousands of hours of clinical voice data, this system records and analyzes conversations in real-time. It identifies symptoms and classifies diseases, automatically creating and saving patient medical records to AMIS 3.0, the hospital’s EMR system. The technology is versatile, functioning in settings like emergency rooms, wards, and treatment rooms. It’s also integrated into emergency carts for use during urgent situations. Initially developed in 2023, the AI scribe has been piloted in orthopaedic and plastic surgery clinics and now operates across 16 departments, including oncology, otolaryngology, and psychiatry. Asan Medical Center plans to expand its use. This innovation, the first of its kind in South Korea, aims to enhance medical record accuracy, support precise treatment planning, and improve patient safety by capturing critical details. The hospital’s IT infrastructure, supporting this and other digital health projects, achieved Stage 7 on the HIMSS Infrastructure Adoption Model. Additionally, AMC’s web portal for international patients uses AI to translate eight major languages and manage data.
