73% Increase in Funding: Mendaera’s Handheld Robotic System Revolutionizes Precise Needle Placement

Mendaera has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining FDA 510(k) clearance for its innovative Focalist system, a handheld robotic device that combines robotics, ultrasound imaging, and software to ensure precise needle placement. This groundbreaking technology features touchscreen targeting, robotic positioning, and continuous depth tracking, making it an essential tool for clinicians.

The initial focus of Focalist is on urology procedures, with full commercialization expected in 2026. Mendaera’s CEO, Josh DeFonzo, emphasizes the importance of precise needle placement as a foundational technique to ensure safe and efficient procedures across healthcare.

Notably, Mendaera has collaborated with Cook Medical to offer combined solutions for urological procedures, integrating EchoTip technology. Additionally, the company partnered with EchoNous in 2024 for portable ultrasound compatibility.

Mendaera’s significant funding milestones include a $73 million Series B round in 2024, which will be used to scale robotics and AI across medical procedures. Previously, the company secured $24 million in Series A funding in 2023 for technology development and FDA clearance.
