Shocking Stat: China’s Data Centers to Consume 600TWh by 2030!

China’s data centers are set to see a massive increase in energy consumption. By 2025, they are projected to use between 100-200TWh, and by 2030, this figure is expected to soar to 600TWh. This growth will also lead to a significant rise in CO2 emissions, reaching 200MtCO2e by 2030. In 2022, data centers consumed 77TWh, and this is expected to increase to 150-200TWh by 2025 and 400TWh by 2030. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts a 100TWh increase by 2027. Goldman Sachs forecasts a similar trend, projecting 200TWh by 2025 and 600TWh by 2030. The power usage effectiveness (PUE) of data centers is also expected to improve, dropping from 1.5 in 2027 to 1.25 by 2025. In 2021, data centers accounted for 2.7% of China’s total electricity consumption, expected to rise to 3.7% by 2030.

While we need data centers, the public shouldn’t be expected to contribute everything required for their operations. The centers consume vast amounts of energy and water, between 300,000 & 500,000 gallons per day. Billionaires usually build them. #DemsUnited #DemVoice1

China is building AI data centers so fast that diesel generator factories are running full speed – producing 8 units per day just to keep up. Why diesel? Because AI infrastructure has become too important to rely on unstable power grids. This isn’t about backup power – it’s

According to an official US government report, US data centers can consume up to 12% of all the electricity produced in the country, primarily driven by AI. The only problem is, we don’t know how to scale up without resorting to burning fossil fuels — that’s an environmental

Data centres tend to cluster together, often around cities. This can lead to bottlenecks in local grids. They’re also growing in size. The largest data centre under construction will use 20X more electricity as a typical hyperscale data centre today https://iea.li/4ct8hWU

A hyperscale data center (like those used by Google, Microsoft, or Meta) can consume up to 1.5 billion liters per year, depending on cooling system and climate. And Irish water are cleaning up
