Japanese pitching sensation Roki Sasaki has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a $6.5 million bonus. Sasaki, who has been on the radar of MLB scouts since high school, announced his decision on Instagram. The Dodgers, who were among the favorites to land Sasaki, had to navigate the international signing rules, which limited their offer to their international bonus pool. They managed to secure additional funds by trading minor league outfielders Dylan Campbell and Arnaldo Lantigua to the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds, respectively. Sasaki’s contract will follow the path of an amateur draft pick, earning close to the major league minimum for his first three seasons and not eligible for free agency until after six years of service time. His pitching stats in Japan include a 2.10 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and 505 strikeouts in 394 innings over four seasons. His arsenal features a fastball reaching 100 mph and a record-setting splitter.
