Alex Bregman’s $40M Salary: A Game-Changer for Red Sox

Alex Bregman, the biggest free agent on the market, has signed a three-year, $120 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. This deal includes an annual salary of $40 million, significantly higher than offers from other teams. Bregman, who has played primarily at third base, is expected to transition to second base for Boston. His career stats at Fenway Park are impressive, with a .375 batting average and a 1.240 OPS, the best in major league history for players with at least 90 plate appearances there. Bregman’s recent performance includes a .260 batting average, 26 home runs, and 75 RBIs in 145 games last season. His signing comes after the Red Sox made other significant moves this offseason, including acquiring Garrett Crochet and signing Walker Buehler and Aroldis Chapman. The Red Sox will lose their second-highest draft pick and $500,000 in international signing bonus pool allocation due to this signing.
