Only 2 Insurers Left at JPM Healthcare Conference: Here’s Why

At the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, only two health insurers are presenting: Alignment Healthcare and Clover Health. Alignment Healthcare, with an annual revenue of approximately $3 billion, is the largest insurer at the event. They focus solely on Medicare Advantage plans. Clover Health, also specializing in Medicare Advantage, is half the size of Alignment. The absence of major publicly traded health insurers at this year’s conference is notable. Many either declined to attend, showed no interest, or withdrew following the recent killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Despite the public backlash against health insurers, Alignment Healthcare’s CEO John Kao chose to stay, understanding the source of public anger.
