Medicare Advantage plans cost the government billions more than traditional Medicare. Some Republican lawmakers, particularly those in the GOP’s Doctors Caucus, are now calling for reforms. They have witnessed insurers manipulating the program’s rules to boost profits. A practice called upcoding, where insurers make patients appear sicker to extract more money, has drawn sharp criticism. Senator Bill Cassidy highlighted issues with coverage denials during a recent confirmation hearing. The $500 billion program, initially supported by Republicans, is now under scrutiny as some acknowledge its manipulation by insurers.

Just a reminder that taxpayers overpay the insurance companies behind Medicare Advantage plans anywhere between $80-$140 billion per year.
Cutting this would also prevent Medicaid cuts under the Republican House budget resolution.
