Jimmy Butler’s 2-Game Suspension: A Statistical Look at the Heat’s Star

The Miami Heat have suspended star guard Jimmy Butler for two games due to a “continued pattern of disregard of team rules, insubordinate conduct and conduct detrimental to the team.” This follows his absence from a team flight to Milwaukee. Butler, who had just returned from a seven-game suspension, will miss games against the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. His recent performance included averaging 13.0 points in 29.3 minutes over the last three games. The Heat are seeking a trade that could bring back players, draft picks, and young talent, but no deal has been finalized as the NBA trade deadline approaches on February 6. Butler’s contract situation adds complexity; he has a player option worth over $52 million for next season and is eligible for a $113 million extension, which the Heat have not offered. Since joining the Heat in 2019, Butler has missed about 25% of the team’s games.
