The valuation of X, formerly known as Twitter, has dropped significantly under Elon Musk’s ownership. Originally purchased by Musk for $44 billion in 2022, X’s value has now fallen to $33 billion. This valuation comes from an all-stock transaction where xAI acquired X. The deal values xAI at $80 billion. X and xAI were already working together, with xAI’s Grok AI model being trained on X posts and available to X users. Paying subscribers receive higher usage limits and additional features. Musk stated that the merger will combine data, models, compute, distribution, and talent to unlock immense potential. Both xAI and X are privately held companies. In September 2024, Fidelity, an investor in X, valued the company at less than $10 billion.
