Standard Chartered has significantly lowered its year-end price target for ether (ETH) to $4,000 for 2025, a sharp decline from the previous $10,000 target. At the time of the report, ether was trading at approximately $1,903. The investment bank highlighted that ether’s dominance in several metrics has been decreasing. They estimate that Coinbase’s Base has already reduced ether’s market cap by $50 billion. Standard Chartered anticipates this trend will persist. The bank also projects the ETH/BTC ratio to drop to 0.015 by the end of 2027, marking the lowest level since 2017. Despite these declines, they expect a recovery in ether’s price due to an anticipated rally in bitcoin, which should lift all digital assets. However, ether’s underperformance is expected to continue unless significant changes occur, such as growth in tokenized real-world assets or a shift in Ethereum Foundation’s strategy.
