CNN to Slash 10% of Workforce in Digital Pivot

CNN, with a global workforce of about 3,500, is set to lay off hundreds of employees this week. The cuts aim to lower production costs and consolidate teams as the network shifts its focus to a global digital audience. This transformation includes rearranging its linear TV lineup and developing digital subscription products. Some shows may relocate from New York or Washington to Atlanta for cost efficiency. Despite the layoffs, CNN’s most recognizable on-air talent, who are under contract, will remain unaffected. The company has received over $70 million from Warner Bros. Discovery to bolster its digital operations, with investments in data scientists and product development. Meanwhile, NBC News is also planning layoffs, though on a smaller scale, with fewer than 50 job losses expected. Both networks delayed these cuts until after the U.S. presidential inauguration.
