San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy experienced a nerve issue in his right elbow during a 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions. The injury occurred when Purdy was sacked by Lions safety Brian Branch and defensive end Pat O’Connor landed on him. Purdy described the sensation as his “arm was on fire” and he was unable to throw on the sideline. Initial tests indicated the issue was not related to his Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL), which he had torn in January 2023. Coach Kyle Shanahan and Purdy both suggested it was a nerve problem, with further imaging scheduled to confirm. Before exiting, Purdy completed 27 of 35 passes for 377 yards, three touchdowns, and one rushing score, though he also threw two interceptions. Backup Josh Dobbs replaced him, going 3-of-4 for 35 yards and scoring on a 7-yard scramble. Purdy’s status for the season finale against the Arizona Cardinals remains uncertain.
