In the acclaimed film The Brutalist, director Brady Corbet used AI technology to refine the Hungarian accents of actors Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones. Despite months of coaching with dialect coach Tanera Marshall, the film’s sound team employed Respeecher’s AI to adjust specific vowels and letters in the Hungarian dialogue. This manual process aimed to enhance authenticity without altering the actors’ performances. The film, which won three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, features Brody as a Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor. The AI was used only for Hungarian dialogue, ensuring the English language remained untouched. The editor, Dvid Jancs, noted that most of the Hungarian dialogue included his voice, ensuring the performances were preserved while making the accents more authentic.
