70% of Gamers Prefer Playing with Familiar Faces: New Matchmaking Algorithm Proposed

A new matchmaking algorithm in gaming aims to increase fun by prioritizing matches with familiar players. After each game, players can rate their teammates with a thumbs up or down. When queuing for a new game, the system matches players with the highest total thumbs up points from their list of previously enjoyed teammates, provided there is space and mutual availability. The goal is to enhance the enjoyment of public matchmaking by fostering repeated play with preferred players. However, a challenge arises as newer players struggle to accumulate enough thumbs up to join games with established players, who already have a large network of preferred teammates. This issue remains unresolved, highlighting the need for further refinement of the algorithm to ensure inclusivity for all players.
