A recent poll by the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) reveals a strong wave of Canadian nationalism. Conducted by Abacus Data, the survey involved 1,800 Canadians from March 31 to April 3. A striking 91% of respondents believe that Canadian culture and identity must be protected, particularly against U.S. influence. Moreover, 90% agree that Canadian content should be owned and controlled by Canadian companies, not U.S. studios. The poll also found that 87% of Canadians believe their cultural identity is worth protecting, and 86% support government funding and tax credits for cultural and creative industries. Additionally, 83% want more investment in Canadian-made TV, film, and digital content with higher production values. A significant 86% desire CBC content that reflects Canada’s history, and 72% prefer to watch locally-made content. These statistics highlight a clear demand for the preservation and promotion of Canadian culture and identity.
