80% of Intimate Partner Violence Cases Involve Tech-Facilitated Abuse: Shocking Stats Revealed!

In a 2022 survey across English-speaking countries, tech-facilitated abuse (TFA) was found to occur in most cases of intimate partner violence. TFA includes using digital tools to control, harass, monitor, or harm someone. An Australian study from October 2024 highlighted a significant gap in understanding TFA among frontline workers, leading to dismissed reports and failure to identify such incidents as intimate partner violence. The study also noted a shortage of funding for specialists skilled in conducting safety scans on devices. A 2022 study by Michaela Rogers from the University of Sheffield identified that TFA survivors often suffer from paranoia, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, low self-esteem, and self-harm. Some US states have passed laws against using smart car technology or location trackers like Apple AirTags for stalking. Tech companies such as Apple and Meta have hired victim service experts to develop product safeguards. Despite these efforts, the evolving nature of technology makes permanent solutions challenging.
