Mortgage rates generally follow the yield on the 10-year Treasury, which experienced its worst week since 1981. Additionally, a monthly report on consumer sentiment was significantly lower than anticipated. The expectation for inflation rose from 5% in March to 6.7% in April, the highest since 1981. These statistics highlight the volatility in the spring housing market, a critical period for home investments.
