$3.1 Billion on the Line: March Madness Betting Set to Break Records

A staggering $3.1 billion is projected to be wagered on the 2025 NCAA March Madness tournaments. This represents a $400 million increase from previous years, according to the American Gaming Association. The surge in betting is attributed to the expansion of legal sports wagering across more states. Both the men’s and women’s 68-team tournaments will feature top seeds Auburn Tigers and UCLA, respectively. The popularity of March Madness is further evidenced by last year’s viewership numbers: the men’s championship game between UConn and Purdue attracted over 14.69 million viewers, while the women’s final drew an impressive 18.7 million. The 2025 Final Four will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on April 5th, with the women’s finals following on April 6th at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. As 136 teams compete for the championship, the anticipated betting activity underscores the event’s massive appeal.

5) Gambling $3.1B is expected to be legally wagered on March Madness games. The crazy part? If 50 million employees spend an hour on their brackets, $1.2B will be lost in corporate productivity.
