The National Center for Education Statistics has been conducting the Private School Universe Survey (PSS) every other year since 1989. This survey aims to compile a comprehensive list of U.S. private schools, despite the challenges posed by varying state regulations. The PSS uses multiple sources like state education departments, private school associations, religious organizations, and even local government offices to gather data. Only 15 individuals have successfully completed this survey, highlighting its complexity. The survey’s findings reveal significant demographic differences between private and public schools, often linked to income disparities. This data provides insights into the educational landscape, showing how private schools differ from their public counterparts in terms of student demographics and possibly educational outcomes.
