$100 Billion Investment: TSMC’s Massive Bet on US Chip Manufacturing

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is set to invest $100 billion in the US to expand its chip manufacturing capabilities. This investment follows a four-year deal with President Donald Trump, aiming to boost domestic semiconductor production. TSMC’s commitment includes building three new fabs in Phoenix, Arizona, with the first already operational since last year. The company’s Arizona fabs are expected to produce chips on par with those from Taiwan, serving major clients like Apple, AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm. By 2030, these facilities are projected to help the US produce 20% of the world’s leading-edge semiconductors. TSMC’s investment has grown significantly over the years, from an initial $12 billion commitment in 2020 to $40 billion by 2022, and now to over $65 billion with the latest plans.
