10% of City Residents Engaged: AI Polling Experiment Yields Impressive Results!

In Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city of 75,000, an AI-powered online polling platform called Pol.is was used to gather resident input for a 25-year city plan. Over the course of a month, 7,890 residents participated, representing about 10% of the city’s population. Of these, 2,000 individuals submitted their own ideas. The platform allowed residents to anonymously submit ideas in less than 140 characters and vote on others’ suggestions. Google Jigsaw’s AI tool analyzed the data to identify areas of agreement and disagreement. Out of 3,940 unique ideas, 2,370 received over 80% agreement, including initiatives like investing in stormwater infrastructure and expanding opportunities for individuals with autism. The most supported ideas focused on increasing local healthcare specialists, attracting more restaurants and grocery stores to the north side, and preserving historic buildings. Of the submitted ideas, 51% were published, 31% were deemed redundant, and 6% were not posted due to being off-topic or containing personal attacks.
