According to recent reports, the video game industry is facing a significant issue regarding developer compensation. A staggering 21% of indie game developers earn less than $30,000 per year, highlighting the need for fair pay and benefits. This alarming statistic has sparked concerns about the long-term sustainability of the industry.
The report also reveals that 14% of developers earn between $30,000 and $50,000 annually, while 12% take home more than $100,000. However, it’s the lower-end figures that raise eyebrows, with 5% earning less than $10,000 per year. These numbers underscore the importance of fair compensation for game developers.
The report does not specify which games or companies are involved in these statistics, but it emphasizes the need for industry-wide change to ensure a more stable and sustainable future for developers.

My feel is even with this change, that the 50th percentile dev on Roblox still earns more than the 50th percentile dev on Steam/Epic Store.Especially once you consider the landscape for “indie” developers who have to sign their soul away to publishers.

Steam is great for gamers, but abysmal for indie devs. Steam is taking a 30% cut and the Steam trend of selling mostly at a discount, developers often end up with only about 50% of their revenue. That’s why it’s great to see Epic Games fighting the fight, thanks

Bit of nonsense here.
You can’t make a game like that for 1.7million.
Here’s why.Just throwing out some random numbers. Even if everyone of the 33 (not including additional support) were on 30k each. Thats $990,000 a year. It was 6 years from concept so let’s say 4.5 years https://x.com/Pirat_Nation/s/Pirat_Nation/status/1927681269145706752…
