1 in 5 Game Developers May Be Losing Their Jobs

According to reports, Cat Daddy Games, the mobile studio behind popular titles such as NBA 2K and WWE SuperCard, is undergoing layoffs. The exact number of affected employees has not been disclosed, but industry insiders suggest it may be around 20% of the company’s workforce.

This news comes on the heels of a trend observed at PAX East, where many solo developers and small teams showcased their games to great success. While this surge in indie game development is exciting for gamers, it also raises concerns about the long-term sustainability of these projects. With fewer large studios and more one-person operations, there may be a shortage of skilled professionals in the industry.

The statistics are stark: according to a recent survey, 22% of game developers have already left their jobs or are considering doing so due to burnout, while another 15% are struggling to find new opportunities. As the gaming industry continues to evolve and grow, it’s crucial that we prioritize the well-being and job security of its most vital specialists – the people who bring our favorite games to life.

The gaming industry can hardly hold onto a W for long anymore. So many have lost their jobs in the past couple years and many more did today. Hoping they land somewhere quickly. This industry seems like you release a total banger or your whole studio may not exist.

We knew it was coming, but it doesn’t make it sting any less. Tens of thousands of jobs have been eliminated in both big tech & the gaming industry over the last couple years. While user numbers and revenue continue to climb to record highs; development costs do as well.My

I’ve been working as an artist in the video game industry for 15 years now & this is the worst I’ve ever seen it, when it comes to constant layoffs.Over the past few years I’ve had to really sit and think of a back up career in case everything implodes completely. It’s bleak.

I remember I wanted to be a game dev when I was a kid. Thank God I lost all passion and ambition. No but really this fucking sucks. Seems like every time these devs start to feel a semblance of job security, the rug gets pulled and all their hard work goes down the drain.

Hey “ai is going to free art theyre not trying to replace you” crowd, the pointless chase for useless chatbots just took away 9000 jobs in gamedev who are making real creative projects.
