Asteroid 2022 AP21 has been deemed not a threat by astronomers after its orbit was reevaluated. Initially, there was a 3.1% chance that the asteroid would crash into Earth in 2032. However, further calculations have revealed that the asteroid’s trajectory is stable and it will safely pass by our planet. This news comes as a relief to scientists and space agencies around the world.
The asteroid’s initial close approach to Earth was estimated to be within 0.0003 astronomical units (AU), which is roughly 23,000 miles or 37,000 kilometers away. Further observations have confirmed that the asteroid will not come closer than 0.001 AU, making it a non-threatening object in our solar system.
The reevaluation of Asteroid 2022 AP21’s orbit highlights the importance of continued monitoring and tracking of near-Earth objects to ensure public safety and prevent potential collisions.
