The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a massive $1.7 trillion agency, is focusing on removing artificial dyes from food. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. met with top executives from PepsiCo North America, Kraft Heinz, General Mills, Tyson Foods, W.K. Kellogg, and J.M. Smucker to discuss this urgent priority. Kennedy expressed his desire to eliminate “the worst ingredients” from the food supply by the end of his term. He emphasized collaboration with the food industry but warned of potential action if progress is not made. In January, the Food and Drug Administration revoked the authorization of Red No. 3, a dye linked to cancer in lab animals. The Consumer Brands Association views the meeting as a constructive step toward improving public health and consumer trust.
