Lakers Trade D’Angelo Russell for Dorian Finney-Smith: Here’s What You Need to Know

The Los Angeles Lakers have traded D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton. The Lakers sent their own second-round picks in 2027, 2030, and 2031 to the Nets. Russell, the second overall pick in the 2015 draft, averaged 12.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in 26.3 minutes per game this season. He returns to the Nets, where he played from 2017 to 2019 and earned his only All-Star selection. Finney-Smith, 31, averaged 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season, shooting a career-high 43.5% from 3. He’s known for his defensive versatility, defending guards, forwards, and centers. The Lakers save $15 million in salary and luxury tax, moving $3.5 million below the second apron. Finney-Smith has a $15.4 million player option for next season. The Nets now have 31 draft picks over the next seven years and over $60 million in cap space.
