Ethereum’s Holesky testnet finally achieved finality on Monday, nearly two weeks after the Pectra upgrade was implemented. The milestone was reached at epoch 119,090, around 19:00 UTC, with over two-thirds of validators participating. An epoch, a period when a specific number of blocks are completed, typically takes about 13 minutes for finality. The delay was due to a configuration bug in the client software, not the Pectra upgrade itself. Developers have been working to stabilize nodes and prune old states to fully revive the testnet for further Pectra testing. Meanwhile, the Sepolia testnet, also running Pectra, initially achieved finality but later faced issues with empty blocks from a flawed deposit contract, which were exploited by an attacker sending zero-token transfers. These issues have since been resolved by client teams.
