Their goal is to provide a comprehensive DeFi experience to Bitcoin users by integrating with Starknet in Q2 2025. This partnership aims to scale Bitcoin’s network from 13 transactions per second (TPS) to thousands. Starknet will act as Bitcoin’s execution layer, handling transaction processing while ensuring finality through Bitcoin settlement. The initiative comes at a time when developers are exploring ways to leverage Bitcoin’s security and reserves for broader DeFi applications. Despite the potential of OP_CAT, a proposed Bitcoin improvement for programmability, Starknet and Xverse plan to proceed with trust assumptions until OP_CAT’s adoption. This approach promises a preview of what intuitive DeFi on Bitcoin could look like, even without full trustless DeFi.
