Eli Lilly, now the world’s largest healthcare company with a market cap of $823 billion, is using its success from GLP-1 drugs like Mounjaro and Zepbound to tackle major health issues. The company’s sales have surged nearly 60% since Mounjaro’s approval in 2022, and its stock price has soared 268% in three years. Lilly is now focusing on diseases like heart disease, hearing loss, addiction, chronic pain, Alzheimer’s, and ALS. They’re testing Kisunla, a drug that removes amyloid plaques from the brain, to prevent Alzheimer’s. The company is also investing heavily in gene therapy, opening a $700 million institute in Boston. Despite industry challenges in gene therapy delivery, Lilly believes it can overcome these hurdles.
