The Bitcoin network achieved a historic milestone on Friday, reaching a hashrate of 1 zettahash per second (1 ZH/s), according to Glassnode data. This surpasses the previous record of 975 exahashes per second (EH/s) set on January 31. Bitcoin’s hashrate first hit 1 EH/s in 2016, a figure that has now increased 1,000 times. Despite this growth, the 7-day moving average of the hashrate stands at 879 EH/s, providing a more stable measure due to natural block time variability. Concurrently, Bitcoin’s difficulty adjustment rose by nearly 7% on Sunday, reaching an all-time high of 121.5 trillion. This marks the largest upward adjustment since July 2024, with 14 of the last 17 adjustments being positive. However, miner revenue per exahash has plummeted to a record low of $42.40, influenced by low transaction fees, increased network difficulty, and a Bitcoin price hovering around $77,000.
