Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” earns its writers approximately $8.5 million annually. The song, released in 1994, has spent 140 weeks in the UK’s top 100 music chart and generated around $100 million since its debut. In a recent U.S. court ruling, Carey was cleared of copyright infringement claims made by songwriter Adam Stone, who performs as Vince Vance. Stone alleged that Carey’s song exploited his 1989 track of the same name and sought at least $20 million in damages. However, Judge Mnica Ramrez Almadani ruled that the songs shared common Christmas song clichés and were not substantially similar. The judge also imposed sanctions on Stone and his legal team for filing frivolous arguments, ordering them to pay Carey’s legal fees. Carey’s hit was the lead single from her fourth studio album and was added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2023.
