1,500 End-of-Life Doulas Registered in 2024: A Growing Field of Support

The field of end-of-life doulas is expanding rapidly. In 2024, the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) reported over 1,500 registered members, a significant increase from the 250 members in 2019. These professionals, sometimes called death doulas, provide non-medical support to those nearing the end of life and their families. They assist with advanced care planning, including living wills and health care proxies, and help clients envision their final moments. End-of-life doulas also facilitate discussions about funeral arrangements and act as a liaison for loved ones. Additionally, they support clients in creating legacy projects, such as writing personal stories or reconnecting with family. The role of end-of-life doulas is becoming increasingly recognized as vital in guiding individuals through their final journey.
