Apple’s Encryption Compromise: 100% of UK Users Lose End-to-End Security

Apple has ceased offering its Advanced Data Protection (ADP) tool in the UK, which previously provided end-to-end encryption for data on devices. This decision came after the UK government demanded a backdoor for global government access to encrypted data. The UK’s Investigatory Powers Act, often called the “Snooper’s Charter,” would have allowed the government to access encrypted data worldwide. Apple chose to disable ADP rather than risk exposing its customers to potential snooping. This means new UK users cannot enable ADP, and current users will eventually need to disable it. Critics argue that this could leave sensitive data vulnerable, especially after incidents like the Salt Typhoon breach, highlighting the importance of end-to-end encryption as a safeguard against unauthorized access.
