Crypto Trading Volumes Soar 180% at CME in January

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME) reported a record-breaking average daily volume (ADV) of 25.7 million contracts in January. Cryptocurrency contracts specifically saw an ADV of 198,000, with a notional value of $13.6 billion. This represents a year-over-year increase of 180% in crypto ADV. Micro bitcoin futures surged by 255%, while micro ether futures jumped by 223%. These micro contracts, representing 0.1 of each cryptocurrency, allow for more precise trading and risk management. Additionally, CME offers options on these contracts, enabling traders to fine-tune their risk exposure. The exchange is also planning to introduce options on Bitcoin Friday Futures (BFF) from February 24, pending regulatory approval.
