99.7% Accuracy: Virtual Robotrucks Prove Real-World Safety

Waabi, a Canadian startup, has developed a virtual simulation, Waabi World, that they claim is accurate enough to prove the safety of their driverless trucks. The simulation matches real-world truck behavior with a 99.7% accuracy rate. This means that when a truck travels 30 meters, Waabi can predict the position of everything within 10 centimeters. The company uses real sensor data to create a digital twin of its trucks, comparing virtual and real-world performance. Waabi’s approach aims to demonstrate safety more effectively than just accumulating real-world miles. They plan to use this simulation to convince regulators to allow their trucks to operate without human drivers later this year.

We taught our robot to trail drive and it nails it zero-shotIts week 1 at our new test facility in the Santa Cruz mountains. Our vehicle has never seen this trail before, in fact it has been trained on very little trail driving data to date. Watch it navigate this terrain

I’ve verified from reliable sources. New visual Turing Test: this is a real robot demo! The controller is a neural net trained in Isaac simulator using reinforcement learning and then sim2real. Reward engineering is all you need.Walking gait’s got swag but we need these robots

Today we are unveiling a new and definitive standard for AV safety: simulator realism.Life-threatening accidents happen roughly once every 10 million miles driven by humans. Even with thousands of trucks driving constantly, we’d need years to encounter just one such event.
