93% of UK Teens Impacted: ‘Adolescence’ Series Sparks National Conversation

The Netflix series ‘Adolescence’ has significantly influenced UK teenagers, with 93% reporting it resonated with them. The show, which follows a 13-year-old boy accused of murder, has not only topped Barbs’ weekly list of the top 50 shows on television but also prompted a national dialogue on youth pressures. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who watched the series with his children, emphasized its impact, stating it “hit home hard.” In response to the series’ success, Netflix has partnered with Into Film+ to make ‘Adolescence’ available in all UK secondary schools. A roundtable discussion, chaired by Starmer, included the series’ writer Jack Thorne and representatives from charities like Tender, NSPCC, and The Children’s Society. The initiative aims to foster open conversations among students about contemporary challenges and societal influences.
