90% of Adults Over 22 Could Benefit: Samsung and Stanford Revolutionize Sleep Apnea Detection!

Samsung and Stanford Medicine have launched a groundbreaking research initiative to refine the sleep apnea detection feature on the Galaxy Watch. This feature, which received FDA De Novo authorization last year, targets adults aged 22 and older, aiming to detect moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. The study, spearheaded by Dr. Robson Capasso and Dr. Clete Kushida from Stanford, seeks to advance the technology from mere detection to effective intervention. Samsung’s ultimate goal is to enable daily monitoring of sleep apnea, providing users with valuable insights and management tools. The collaboration leverages Samsung’s technological prowess and Stanford’s research expertise to innovate in preventive care. In 2023, Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety approved this feature in Samsung’s Health Monitor app, marking a significant step in early detection of sleep apnea symptoms.

I will keep saying that tech giants and healthcare institutions shouldn’t compete but work together because what they are individually good at doesn’t overlap.
