8,000 Bitcoins Buried in Landfill: One Man’s $800M Quest

James Howells, an IT professional, lost 8,000 bitcoins in a landfill over a decade ago. These bitcoins are now worth nearly $800 million. After losing a court battle with Newport City Council in Wales, Howells has offered to buy the landfill. His plan involves removing all trash, potentially saving the city cleanup costs, and using advanced technology to find his hard drive with the private key to his cryptocurrency wallets. However, the council seems unlikely to accept his offer as they plan to develop a solar farm on part of the landfill. This solar farm would help replace diesel garbage trucks with electric vehicles, reducing the city’s carbon footprint and improving air quality.
