The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has terminated all members of its advisory committees, including the Cyber Safety Review Board, which was investigating a significant Chinese hack of major US telecom firms. This decision was part of a broader cost-cutting initiative under the Trump administration. The board, established under a Biden-era cybersecurity executive order, had been examining a 2023 Microsoft Exchange Online hack and more recently, the infiltration by the Chinese hacking group Salt Typhoon into companies like Verizon and AT&T. The hackers stole call records and reportedly accessed communications of high-profile figures including Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Despite the disbandment, the DHS has stated that former members are welcome to reapply. The future of the board and its ongoing investigations remains uncertain.
