7 Key Stats: Ireland’s New Gambling Regulator and the Future of Betting

Ireland’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRAI) began operations on March 5, 2024, tasked with enforcing the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. The GRAI, led by CEO Anne-Marie Caulfield and overseen by Paul Quinn, currently has seven board members. The authority aims to open betting license applications, both online and on-site, before the year ends. Online gaming licenses will follow in early 2026, with the licensing process extending to 2027, covering charities and business-to-business operations. Companies interested in licenses were invited to register in March. The new regulations include advertising restrictions from 5:30am to 9pm to protect children. Licensed operators will contribute to a Social Impact Fund, with the percentage yet to be determined, to support gambling education, research, and treatment.
